For those unfortunate Xbox 360 owners who don’t have Xbox Live and want to try some of the more popular Xbox Live Arcades titles, Microsoft has attempted to solve your problem. Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged is a simple compilation of various Xbox Live titles which Microsoft has deemed are worthy of putting on a disk. One has to wonder on Microsoft’s taste though since some of the games are spot on while others are just downright boring.
Filling out the ranks in the compilation are Bejewled 2, Geometry Wars, Wiki: Fable of Souls, Texas Hold’em Poker, Outpost Kaloki X, and Hardwood Backgammon. Instead of going on and on about what each game is and how well it plays, my advice would be to go and check out our more comprehensive reviews in our Xbox Live section. The real question is, is this pack worth the money for people without an Xbox Live account? Because of the phenomenal Geometry Wars and Bejeweled 2 I would say maybe. It all depends on if you are really dying to try out Geometry Wars. Chances are players have experienced GW at one point or another because of a friend with XBL. Like Geometry Wars? Then pick this up.
Beyond this though I really can’t see why someone would pick this up. Texas Hold’em Poker and Hardwood Backgammon are boring as hell, and only those going for the maximum number for their gamerscore would find themselves playing these games. If Microsoft had included some better games, or even included some disk exclusive games then it might be a different story. Quite honestly though this feels more like Microsoft trying to squeeze money out of Xbox 360 owners and nothing else.
